Been a while! - I will get better!

It has been far too long since my first post - I will be forcing myself into a consistent blogging routine so that you all have access to plenty of information all of the time! That is sort of the point of this blog. ;)

Summer is rapidly approaching and a lot of you like myself are finished with finals or beginning to wrap everything up before you leave wherever for the summer. This means sun, the beach, a tropical island, cruise or just a cup of tea with a good book on the back porch. Along with all of this fun and freedom comes and attitude of freedom when it comes to your FOOD and EXERCISE. In the past week alone I have heard three different people say that "they can't wait till such and such vacation because they're going to pig out"!!! My mental jaw dropped and I realized this is what this post needed to be about. I will say this now to hit the point in the forefront: A VACATION IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO THROW YOUR HARD WORK OUT THE WINDOW. I don't know if I can stress this enough.

You can toss whatever excuse around: some examples include "I deserve this.", "I have been working hard.", "Oh come on, it's just three days!", "I'll sweat it off when I get home.". Any of those sound familiar? If not, I have plenty more in the ole' noggin. Why would you spend the past 3, 6, 9 months or even a year out the window with one vacation? Allowing yourself to just attack the local grocery store for all of the junk you should not allow into your body is like bursting a dam that you have been steadily building. Once it's broken, it takes just as much time, effort and discipline as the first go around. How about this: keeping staying disciplined!

Now, I know a lot of people are now going to move to excuse #2: "So you're saying I can't have anything "fun" to eat. Ever?" No, no, NO, that's not what I'm saying. I am a firm believer in a splurge, spoiling yourself or whatever you want to call it. If you're on vacation, plan one of your nights for a nice dinner out with your family, husband, etc. Do they have an incredible chocolate souffle that is known throughout the land? Have at it! There's your treat! Enjoy every. Single. Bite. Then the next morning, go right back to your routine as usual! A bowl of fruit with coconut water, a delicious smoothie, the list goes on and on. It's okay to treat yourself, but if you allow the addictive side of your mind to be unleashed back to old habits, it is easy to become discouraged and lose confidence in yourself after all of the progress you've made or maintained.

I hope this helps you all as you prep for upcoming vacations! Leave any comments, suggestions or further discussion in the comments below! Happy travels!
